The Restoration and Customization process
The Overbuilt process begins with an extensive search for the most authentic and rust free CJ’s, preferably non restored CJ’s in original condition with the original paint. The most desirable years are 1982-1983 CJ-5, 1982-1986 CJ-7, 1982-1985 Scrambler, due to the wide track axles, stronger body tubs, longer front shocks and Dana 300 transfer case. Once we locate, inspect and are satisfied with the integrity of the vehicle, we will purchase it.
The next step is the selection of the desired upgrade package along with the preparation and approval of the contract agreement and payment schedule. We try to be flexible with the payment schedule and can customize a payment plan to work with your budget.
Your project vehicle is then stripped down to its chassis in preparation of the rebuilding process. The frame and drivetrain are sandblasted and any rust on body is cut out and new metal is fitted, welded and metal finished. The frame is painted or powder coated depending on package.
As to be expected, the entire power train, including the engine, transmission are thoroughly overhauled to our high standard. Nothing is left untouched. The engine is completely rebuilt or a new crate engine is installed depending on package. The transmission is either rebuilt or a new installation based on the package and the transfer case is rebuilt. The front and rear axles are rebuilt.
Once the body work is complete, It is custom painted with high quality paint in your choice of colors (standard solid and metallic). Candy or custom glamour finishes are extra.
The assembly process includes re-wiring using new custom electrical harness, a heavy duty cooling package and an aluminized steel exhaust.(Stainless Steel Exhaust is extra.) Stainless steel brake lines, stainless steel fuel lines, and stainless Steel hardware to Grade 8 are all part of the package.
The interior receives a complete makeover with Bestop seats, SpeedHut gauges, dash pad, and retro sound stereo system. It is then topped off with Bestop super top soft top. To complete the beautiful stance, a 2.5 Suspension Lift, 15×8 Aluminum wheels, and 31×10.50×15 tires are installed.
